A Nigerian man identified as Godwin Abah has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing a goat to celebrate his late mom’s remembrance in Benue. Godwin who was said to be a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, was reportedly planning to celebrate his mother’s one year remembrance and needed a goat for the ceremony. According to reports, he sent two boys to get him a goat but luck ran out on them, as they were nabbed by local vigilante.

Residents of Omeligboma camp in Oko community, Oshimili South Local Government Area, Delta State, lamented the drowning of four persons who were trying to escape from the area to avoid being submerged by the ravaging flood. A dependable source said the boat in which the yet to be identified victims were fleeing with from trapped settlement to higher grounds, suddenly capsized at the middle of the river.

 

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has declared that the 9th House is committed to overhauling policing in Nigeria. The Speaker stated that Nigerians are scared of police than criminals. Gbajabiamila stated this in his opening remarks at the resumption of the House following a two-month holiday.

 

Academics Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to sanction lecturers in Rivers State-owned universities if they resume lectures. President of ASUU, Abiodun Ogunyemi, stated this while reacting to the directive of Rivers State Government that both tertiary institutions, secondary and vocational schools will reopen on Monday, October 5.
