Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has spoken up against the illegal activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigerian Police Force.

Many Nigerians today took to Twitter to use the #EndSARS hashtag to once again shade light of the brutalities, extortions, abuses and other undesirable treatments melted on young Nigerians by SARS operatives.

Similarly, Activist Aisha Yesufu called out President Buhari, VP Osinbajo, State Governors, Ministers, NASS members and religious leaders for keeping silent in the face of brutalities Nigerians suffer. She wrote:

“SARS have been harassing citizens yet Buhari is not talking
Osinbajo is not talking
Governors are not talking
Ministers are not talking
National Assembly members are not talking.
Religious leaders aka slave owners are not talking

On Saturday evening, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar eventually spoke up against the controversial police unit.

He wrote: “The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigerian Police was set up to confront violent crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other related crimes. However, the unit has today morphed into an oppressor of the Nigerian masses who strive every day for a better life.

SARS Is Threatening My Life, If Anything Happens To Me You Know Who To Blame

“Reports of intimidation, harassment and outright extortion by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have continued unabated.

“I strongly condemn their cruel actions against our people, and I urge the government to rise to the occasion and nip this monstrosity in the bud with the seriousness it deserves.

“It is expedient that the activities of SARS are reviewed to ensure that the rogue elements are excised from the unit and sanity returned to its operations.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians considered his tweets insufficient and challenged him to mobilize members of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party to lead Nigerians on a road protest against SARS.
