Prof. James Nwoye Adichie, father of Popular Nigerian writer and a renowned feminist,, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, was laid to rest on Friday, 9 October, in Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The ceremony began with a Holy Mass presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Jonas Benson Okoye of the Awka Catholic Diocese, and drew the attendance of Ex Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Esimone, among other intellectuals and personalities, including the members of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (Anambra State Chapter).

Chimamanda Writes On Father’s Death, 3 Months After

The family of Adichie announced the demise of their father, Prof. James Nwoye Adichie, on Wednesday, June 10,2020.

He was 88years old.

He received his PhD in statistics from Berkeley and went on to become Nigeria’s first professor of statistics. His dedicated life’s work was at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he was named professor emeritus in 2016. Upon his retirement, he lived in his hometown, Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Ifeoma Adichie; their six children: Ijeoma, Uchenna, Chuks, Okechukwu, Chimamanda and Kenechukwu; as well as nine grandchildren, in-laws and many relatives.

“My father was a very remarkable, kind and loving father. He was also a patient and honest man of integrity. He always had time for his children. In fact my father was the bedrock of whatever I am today. So I don’t think I could have had a better father than him. I love him, and I will miss him so much,” she said.
