NGO Says Protest Against Bad Governance Must Be Peaceful

An Enugu based non-governmental organisation, NGO, Heroine Women Foundation, has said that protests against years of bad governance in the country must be peaceful, if desired results will be achieved.

Executive Director of the Foundation, Onyinye Mamah made this known on Thursday in Enugu while speaking to newsmen against the backdrop of the protest which turned violent, leading to destruction of loves and property across the country.

According to Mamah, the Endpolicebrutality and Endbadgovernance campaign had begun and was having an addressed audience in the state, sequel to the endsars protest.

“That was till the Lekkitollgate supposed massacre which was outrightly denied by the Lagos State governor some days after alongside some figure heads as just a killing of two persons” she noted.

She said the massacre spurred an usual rebellious and turbulent spirit in Enugu youths even though stories have it that dozens more number of hoodlums joined the protest to divert its objectives.

According to her, the destruction of property, looting, ramapage as well as stray bullet stories which invaded the air were not part of our original object.

“We wanted to achieve a reform, a listening better and close government, most importantly, our civil rights uphepd as the state should deem it fit to include us in all relevant sectors”.
She said “If we lose one person, we lost. We must die well, old and in peace not in violence, social disruption or anarchy or as a result of failed government”.

“Violence has never given any good result. If we had continued just the way we started, we would have achieved alot. Now we have socially disrupted the same nation we have been struggling to build”.

She said there are measures in place to ensure that the country is rid of corruption which has affected the growth of the country over the years, adding that efforts will also be made to ensure that families of dead and injured victims in the state are duly compensated.

She called for the inclusion of more youths and CSOs to assist in the monitoring and tracking of activities in Enugu State, especially as a commission of enquiry has been set to look into the protest and its attendant consequences.

The foundation aims at fighting poverty, transforming the society and giving the children, youths and women a reason to live there best through nurture and love.
