CAF Competition: Enyimba To Battle El-Merrikh, Rivers Utd Tackle Celtic

Eighth-time Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Enyimba, will face Sudanese side, El-Merreikh SC after booking a spot in the first round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers with a 2-1 aggregate win over Rahimo on Sunday in Aba.

The People’s Elephant who had defeated Rahimo 1-0 in Burkina Faso in the first leg, drew 1-1 in Aba to advance to the next round of the competition.

Austin Oladapo scored the opener for the hosts in the 61st minute but they were begged back in the 75th minute by Pape Ware’s strike.

El-Merriekh qualified for the second preliminary qualifying round after a 3-1 aggregate win over AS Otoho of Congo.

The first leg of the qualifiers will be played between December 22 and 23 at the Al-Merrikh Stadium Omdurman in Khartoum with the reverse fixture scheduled for the Enyimba Stadium in Aba between January 5 or 6, 2021.

Rivers United also qualified for the first round of the CAF Confederations Cup beating Futuro Kings 2-0 on penalties after regulation time ended 3-3 on aggregate with the team set to face South African side, Bloemfontein Celtic in the first round qualifiers.

Stanley Eguma’s side will be hoping to qualify for the playoff round of the Confederation Cup when they face South African club Bloemfontein Celtic.

The first leg comes up between December 22 and 23 at the Molemela Stadium, Bloemfontein while the second leg will be played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka, in Port Harcourt between January 5 or 6, 2021.
