The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given telecommunications operators in the country two weeks to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN).

Customers of all networks were asked to register with their National Identity Numbers (NIN) or risk losing their numbers.

The FG approved 173 centers and 30 state government institutions for the enrolment of all persons, including legal residents into the National Identity Database (NIDB) on behalf of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Following the short span of time allocated for the registration however, Nigerians can explore other alternatives to get it done.

If you have previously enrolled for your National ID before now, here is a quick hint on how to check if yours has NIN linked.

Step 1:

Dial *346# and press 1. The service costs N20 per dial.

Some people will still have NIN linked as long as they completed their sim registration appropriately even though they don’t have National ID Card (NIMC).

Step 2:

After you must have checked and your line (MTN) is not linked to your NIN and you’re very sure you have registered for National ID, you don’t need to panic.

All you have to do is to copy out the ID number, type on the internet mtnonline.com/nim/ and put your NIN in the form that will show online on the MTN website and submit.

For people who are yet to enroll for NIMC (National ID), you can start the process online by visiting nimc.gov.ng and then visit a nearest enrollment centre to complete the registration.

Once you’re done with registration try Step 1 to be sure your line was linked.
