After Delays, Nnewi Museum Set To Open

The Traditional Ruler of Nnewi, His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Kenneth Onyemaeke Nnaji Orizu (III) has announced plans to open the first-ever museum in Nnewi.

The opening of the museum is part of activities to mark the 57th Ofala festival and 95th birthday of His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Kenneth Orizu (III), which is billed to hold on 28th and 29th December, 2020.

In an interview with Anaedoonline.ng, Igwe Nnewi, Igwe Dr. Kenneth Orizu (III) said that the museum which is opening after much delays, will not only serve as a tourism centre, but also a research centre for the next generation.

He noted that the museum which is located inside the palace will be home to antiquities, relics, archives, artefacts and information’s about Nnewi.

The museum which has the capacity to host about four hundred (400) persons at once, will fulfil the need to create a space for exploring the heritage and common traditions of Nnewi.

According to the Traditional Ruler, the museum will also serve as a place to preserve the ancient artefacts and properties of Nnewi people for the benefit of the next generation.

He revealed that the building of the museum was started by the former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State and Current Minister of Niger Delta, His Excellency, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio (Imelu-Ora Nnewi), but was completed from the financial contributions of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano and some Nnewi indigenes.

The Traditional Ruler, who is one of the longest-serving Traditional Ruler in Nigeria, said that some sections of the museum will be named after the donors.
