Stop Corps Members From Traveling Beyond 6pm – NYSC Asks FRSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra has appealed to the Federal Road Safety (FRSC) in the state to assist them in discouraging corps members from night trips, particularly traveling beyond 6 pm.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Kehinde Aremu made the appeal on Tuesday when he led a team on a courtesy visit to the command in furtherance of the existing collaboration between the two organizations.

He was particularly grateful to the command for ensuring corps members got to their destinations during the period of lockdown occasioned by the novel Coronavirus pandemic last year.

FRSC Warns – Stop Traveling At Night

He said, “We want you to discourage Corps Members from night travels, especially beyond 6 pm, so as to avoid Road Traffic Crashes and other security threats.

“We will also appreciate more corps members to serve as Road Safety Ambassadors by preaching road safety during their service year, as well as Intensive lecture Road safety lecture for Corps members on Road Safety during their camping.

Responding, FRSC Sector Commander, Andrew Kumapayi noted that the NYSC members had been instrumental to the success of enlightenment campaigns by his Command in the State.

He lauded the accomplishments of NYSC in the State which he attributed to the purposeful and focused leadership of the Coordinator and staff of the Scheme.

He also praised the corps member’s enthusiasm, particularly in the area of sensitization of road users and their creative ingenuity in carrying out Community Services Development (CDS) activities.

On the night trip plea by the NYSC boss, Kumapayi pledged to ensure that corps members were not allowed to travel at late hours, saying, “I’m determined to ask any one of them found at such times to disembark. Such a person to travel in daylight.”

He further expressed a willingness to personally visit the orientation camp to sensitize corps members on their expected roles with regards to their safety and that of others on the roads.

Expressing appreciation for the visit, the FRSC boss requested for more collaboration especially in encouraging more corps members in participating in NYSC Road Safety Clubs, as they usually help in traffic control and public enlightenment.
