Thomas Tuchel: My Target Is To Win EPL This Season

Thomas Tuchel has said that his target is not just qualifying the team for next season’s Champions League but to win the Premier League this season.

Tuchel is now 10 matches unbeaten since taking over at Stamford Bridge.

The German said that moving into the top four (as his team did after beating Liverpool at Anfield) and settling for Champions League qualification is not an option.

“We didn’t think this way,” he told reporters after Chelsea’s win over Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Mason Mount’s first-half strike was all the Blues needed to secure all three points and move into the top four displacing West Ham United.

“We have already been in the top four after a win against Newcastle and we cannot lose the focus by looking at fixtures all the time, it does not help,” Tuchel said.

“There are still 11 games to go, still a long way, we are in the race. We closed the gap very quickly and it is a big effort and now we are in the middle of the race and we need to keep going.

“But this league, the competition in the Champions League and FA Cup, drives us and it is not time to lay back and become too relaxed.

“I have a hungry group and I am hungry and we are not finished.”

Speaking after the game yesterday, Chelsea boss described midfielder, N’Golo Kante’s performance against Liverpool as ‘incredible’.

Tuchel explained that Kante is a gift for Chelsea, adding that the France World Cup winner never stops during games.

Chelsea defeated Liverpool at Anfield, thanks to Mason Mount’s superb first-half strike.

“He [Kante] is a gift. It’s incredible,” Tuchel told RMC Sport after the game. I have never seen anything like this. At training, in games, he never stops. We look at the data on his intensity, and he is incredible. He really is a gift.
