Gunmen Burn Down Security Vans, kill Soldiers, Policeman

Some unknown gunmen, Thursday, attacked police and military posts across different locations in Anambra state, killing some numbers of officers.

Sources told newsmen that the hoodlums attacked a checkpoint at Okacha junction, Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area (LGA) during which they killed about two policemen, while some soldiers at an outpost in Awkuzu, Oyi LGA, were equally shot dead.

According to the source, the gunmen equally set ablaze a police van in Neni, as well as carted away their arms just as they took away arms belonging to the soldiers. The new Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who only confirmed the attack on officers at Neni said one police officer was killed.

“There was an attack on Police patrol team at Okacha junction Neni, Anaocha LGA by yet to be identified gunmen while on nipping point today 18/3/2021 at about 4:30pm. The hoodlums numbering over twenty with three Sienna buses and motorcycles engaged the police in a gun-duel which lasted for over 30mins before reinforcements from the State headquarters forcing the hoodlums to escape.

“As a result, two police operatives sustained gunshot injuries and rushed to the hospital for medical attention where one was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. The Commissioner of police, CP MB Kuryas,fsi has visited the scene for on the spot assessment. Investigation is ongoing and effort is being intensified in order to unravel perpetrators of the heinous act and bring them to book,” he stated.

In a related story, Suspected kidnappers were said to have ambushed travelers in Ekiti State, killing one person and made away with others.

Anaedoonline.ng gathered that victims of the latest attack were ambushed late on Saturday evening, at a location between Ikere Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere Local Government of Ekiti State and Iju, a border town in Ondo State.
