Destiny Etiko’s early life and upbringing

Destiny Etiko was born and raised in Udi, a town near Enugu, Enugu State, in the southeastern part of Nigeria on 12 August 1989. This puts Destiny’s age at 32 as at the time of writing this. Destiny is the second child of a family of five children – 3 males, and 2 females. In her early years, she attended Zik Avenue Primary School in Enugu for her nursery and primary education. Destiny Etiko then went on to attend Queens School in Enugu for her secondary education where she obtained her West Africa Senior School Certificate.

Upon completing her Secondary Education, Destiny Etiko moved to Awka to further her tertiary education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Already sensing her calling in the make-belief world, she studied theatre art. She graduated in 2012.

Career

Destiny Etiko once stated in an Interview that she drew her inspiration from her mother whose footsteps she is following. Although, it is yet to unconfirmed if her mother was once an actress or into show business as at the time of this publication but there is no reason to believe that Destiny was out to tell a variable lie in the media: Her mother must have been in show business.

Destiny Etiko’s career started way back to when she was still in school, where she joined the Nigeria Movie Industry (Nollywood) in 2011 after she registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) at their office in Enugu state.

This pretty and curvy actress rose to the limelight in 2014 after the release of the Nollywood movie “Idemili” where she played the role of Ekemme. This award-winning movie which was directed by Ernest Obi became a hit and earned her Best Promising Actress at City People Entertainment Awards in 2016.

She also won a couple of awards, including the Viewers’ Choice Award, an award in the category of Best New Actress, and the Golden Icon Movie Academy Award in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category.

After the release of the movie which was a blast in Nigeria and other countries, she got more lead role opportunities, making her one of the most sought-after Nigerian actresses of recent times. After “Idemili”, Destiny’s major appearances in popular Nollywood include “The Prince & I”, “Heart of Love”, “My Sisters Love”, and “Poor Billionaire. Others include: “Virgin Goddess”, “Queen of Love”, “The Sacred Cowry”, “The Return of Ezendiala”, “Barren Kingdom”, and “Pains of the Orphan”. There is also “The Hidden Sin”, “Family Yoke, King’s Word”, “Sound of Evil”, “My Private Part” and dozens of others.

Destiny is described by many as a confident and very skillful woman, who interprets her movie roles to the best brilliantly, bringing creativity and reality to the set.

She has also shared the screen with prominent Nollywood actors and actresses such as Cynthia Okereke, Yul Edochie, Patience Ozokwor, Zubby Michael, Tonto Dikeh, Nkem Owoh, Eve Essien, the legendary Pete Edochie, and so on.
