Chelsea have been handed a fitness boost with the knee injury suffered by Jorginho described as “not a serious problem” by the midfielder’s agent.

Jorginho is currently ruled out due to injury

Jorginho, Anaedoonline.ng understands, picked up the knock during the Blues’ goalless draw with Leeds United and would’ve been ruled out of the Champions League game with Atletico Madrid were he not already suspended.

The 29-year-old didn’t train with the Chelsea first-team squad ahead of their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Sheffield United and wasn’t selected in the 38-man Italy squad for their World Cup qualifiers.

“As regards to the midfielders, we are really in a bit of difficulty in the centre,” Azzurri boss Roberto Mancini said in his press conference on Monday.

“We’re missing Jorginho, who wasn’t well. He’d taken a knock to the knee and he wasn’t fit to play in these games so we didn’t risk him.”

Jorginho has remained in England and is undertaking his recovery at Cobham, alongside Tammy Abraham and Thiago Silva, during the international break.

Jorginho’s future at Chelsea was the subject of speculation last summer.

The Italian international had lost his place in the starting XI during the Blues’ Project Restart fixtures and a potential switch to Arsenal was mooted but never materialised.

The Blues has also been dealt a big injury blow, after N’Gole Kante picked up a hamstring injury, while on international duty with France.

Kante will now return to Stamford Bridge early, although the issue is not thought to be serious. The 29-year-old played 90 minutes on Wednesday evening as Les Bleus were held to a 1-1 draw by Ukraine.

He did not appear to be carrying an injury when he left the pitch at full-time. But further examinations on Thursday have revealed that he has suffered a small injury to his left hamstring.

A statement from the French national team read in part: “N’Golo Kante will not take part in the next two matches of the French team on Sunday in Kazakhstan and three days later in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“The Chelsea midfielder felt a pain in the hamstrings of the left thigh at the very end of the match against Ukraine on Wednesday at the Stade de France.”

It added that Kante will not be replaced in the squad.
