‘You Can’T Bring Down What Is Already Down’ – Aisha Yesufu Replies Garba Shehu

Socio-political activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Movement, Aisha Yesufu, has reacted to a statement by Garba Shehu, the media aide to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) that the president cannot be brought down.

In reaction, Yesufu agrees with Shehu explaining that as it isn’t possible to bring down what is already down.

Yesufu wrote on Twitter:

“Spokesperson to the President, Garba Shehu @GarShehu said nobody can bring Buhari’s govt down and I totally agree with him. You cannot bring down what is already down. We are making demands to bring the government up and doing.”

Yesufu went on to share a video that contains her full statement.

Nigerian activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign, Aisha Yesufu has been listed amongst the BBC’s 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for the year 2020.

Yesufu was listed alongside Sanna Marin who leads Finland’s all-female coalition government, Michelle Yeoh, star of the new Avatar and Marvel films, and Sarah Gilbert, who heads the Oxford University research into a coronavirus vaccine.

The Nigerian activist has been vocal against misgovernance and government oppression in the West African country.

At some point in the widespread #EndSARS protests, she was the face of the massive street processions, with many hailing her as a heroine for her role in pushing for police reforms.

Yeseufu was also recognized by Twitter as her handle was verified after many Nigerians pushed for her to be given the blue tick by the micro-blogging website.

According to the BBC, this year’s 100 Women list “is highlighting those who are leading change and making a difference during these turbulent times.”
