Champions Delta State began the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival on a bright note when they won the first gold medal of the competition in the 80km cycling race for women on Sunday morning.

Ese Ukpeseraye beat 12 other cyclists to the finish line to enter into the history books as the first gold medallist at the 20th edition of the NSF.

Ten athletes, who tested positive for COVID-19 at the ongoing Edo 2020 National Sports Festival, have been placed in isolation.

Speaking with journalists, Dr. Andrew Obi, the Incident Manager, COVID-19 Response, Edo State stated that seven of the athletes had been moved to the Stella Obasanjo Isolation Centre, where medical personnel is attending to them.

The remaining three, according to Dr. Obi, tested positive Sunday morning. “So far, we have 10 persons who tested positive; seven of them have been moved to the Stella Obasanjo Isolation Centre.

“They will be there taking their doses until they’re declared fit enough to get back to the public,” Dr. Obi said.
