Igbo social-cultural organisation, Nzuko Umunna has called on the Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba to adopt a new approach in handling the attacks on Imo State Prison and Police Headquarters in Owerri. The group said that the new IGP must ignore the hasty conclusion made by the ex-IGP Mohammed Adamu, who had, without forensic investigations, accused members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and its Eastern Security Network, ESN, of having perpetrated the dastardly act.

Angry residents of Umuawom village, Ihodimeze community in Ikeduru council area of Imo State on Wednesday set ablaze a fleeing prisoner, who returned home from the Owerri Correctional Centre. The fleeing prisoner, whose identify could not be ascertained as at press time, was said to have hailed from the nearby Ogwa community in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State but grew up in Umuawom village, which is his maternal home.

Usman Alkali Baba, The newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police, has promised an improvement in the security situation in Nigeria. Baba was yesterday appointed by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). He assumed the role today after a ceremony in Abuja which saw his predecessor, Mohammed Adamu, hand over to him.

The Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe on Wednesday, demanded a thorough investigation into the rising wave of attack on police formations across the country, especially the ones that happened recently in Imo State. Abaribe condemned the frightening surge of violence in the South-East, particularly the attack on the Correctional Centre in Owerri, Ebonyi and Enugu states.

Popular Nnewi based Christian Cleric, Ven. Dr. Stanley Awuzie, has revealed that there may be sporadic shooting in Nnewi. Ven. Awuzie made the prophetic declaration on Monday, 5th April 2021, at Morning Mass at Cathedral Church of St. Mary’s Uruagu Nnewi.
