Censorship Of The Media Is Unacceptable In A Democratic Government – Fani-Kayode

A former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has directly shown he displease to the declared suspension of Channels Television by the Nigerian Government.

On Monday, (NBC) The National Broadcasting Commission in a submission to the Managing Director of Channels TV signed by Prof. Armstrong Idachaba, the Acting Director-General of the Commission said Channels TV sinned giving privilege to the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB to make secessionist and inciting declarations on air without fear of equivocation.

In regards to that, The government gave a public declaration of a fine of N5 million for breach of the broadcast code. Fani-Kayode at the verge of his reaction condemned the action saying, the censorship of the media is wrong and unacceptable in a democratic government.

The former minister, On his Twitter page, wrote: “It is wrong for NBC to sanction @channelstv simply because they allowed the spokesman of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful, to answer some pertinent and vital questions about the attack on the home of the Governor of Imo state.
