Liverpool Goalkeeper Scores 95th-Minute Winner As Race For Top 4 Goes To The Wire

If you are having an average Sunday, it is because you didn’t watch the match between Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion. The match began with West Brom already relegated and Liverpool sitting fifth in the table four points behind Chelsea having played a match less. This was their equalizing 36th match and not getting the maximum points would basically end their pursuit of Champions League football next season.

Liverpool were super favourites to win the match, on paper.

On the pitch, it wasn’t that clear-cut as West Brom draw the first blood when Hal Robinson-Kanu scored in the fifteenth minute. Liverpool began to chase the game and got an equalizer in the 33rd minute through a Salah goal. Each team continued to push for the winner in what was an entertaining battle.

In the second half, Liverpool through Sadio Mane had the ball in the back of the net but he was adjudged to be offside. West Brom then scored but this too was disallowed because a West Brom player was offside and he didn’t have anything to do with the goal (he was adjudged to be blocking Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson Becker).

Liverpool and West Brom went on to squander opportunities. Kanu was the biggest culprit as he missed two goal-scoring chances, including one one-on-one. Liverpool resumed pressuring pointed to the fact that West Brom might regret their misses. They did but this came from the unlikeliest source.

Here’s the moment Leicester won the FA Cup

Referee Mike Dean gave four added minutes in the match. at the stuck of 94 minutes, Liverpool got a corner. Liverpool goalkeeper, Allison Becker ran from his goal to the opposite end as goalkeepers do in dying minutes of a match they need something from. It was mostly a routine move from goalkeepers. They never scored so why bother with them. In fact, goalkeepers have conceded more coming out to score in the last minute than they have scored.

Not Allison Becker. Not tonight. Trent Alexander-Arnold swung in the cross from the corner. Allison Becker jumped up and nodded home!

The goal shook the foundation of the top four table and whatever position the team ends the 2020/2021 season with, this goal would never be forgotten, this moment will always be discussed whenever spectacular goals are mentioned.

And no, it wasn’t a fluke. Allison Becker turned his head with the ball in a manner that would make prolific strikers proud. The West Brom keeper stood no chance.

With this victory, the top 4 table looks like this:

Leicester after 36 matches, 66 points;

Chelsea after 36 matches, 64 points;

Liverpool after 36 points, 63 points.

Chelsea and Leicester play each other on Tuesday. the battle for top four will be decided on the last day.

At the end of the match, Allsion Becker couldn’t take this. He wept.
