Police Denies Release Of Suspects Arrested For Vandalization

The Nasarawa State Police Command has debunked rumours making the rounds that some high profile suspects arrested and paraded by it recently for vandalization of rail lines have been released.

There has been rumour that some of the high calibre suspects, among them the now suspended special adviser on Infrastructure to Governor Abdullahi Sule, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar Musa, a.k.a. Musa Mada had been released.

Recall that the Police had arrested several persons in connection with the crime which is considered “economic sabotage’’.

Apart from the special adviser, those arrested included, Mohammed Isiaka, a former supervisory councilor on education in Nasarawa Eggon local government council; Inspector Richard Joseph of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Lafia; Sergeant Mali Peter of same CID, Lafia; Samuel Asoloko, Nigerian Legion; Ibrahim Amegwa Usman, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lafia; Samuel Shagbaor, Principal Technical Officer of the Nigeria Railway Corporation(NRC) in charge of Agyragu, Lafia and its suburbs.

Others are Marra Thai, the Chinese Manager of Yong Xing Steel Company in Tuga Maje, FCT, Abuja; the company’s Procurement Officer, Jacob Terkymun Emmanuel; its legal officer Nathaniel Oba; Aliyu Abdullahi Dan Amana, Abdul Qayyumu Abubakar, Umaru Dauda, Yusuf Ahmed and Abubakar Nuhu.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Bola Longe had revealed that some of the suspects were caught in the act while others were apprehended upon further investigations.

He revealed that preliminary investigations showed that it was “a grand conspiracy involving high net worth individuals who act as sponsors and drivers of various syndicates which specialize in vandalizing Nigerian railway tracks/sleepers in different parts of Nasarawa state, notably, Gudi-Lafia-Akeleku-Makurdi”.

Reacting to the wild allegation, ASP Ramhan Nansel, the Command spokesperson emphatically denied the insinuation.

“Due to closure of Courts, all suspects are still under the custody of the Police”,adding, “however, in the case of the special adviser, he was released on bail for medical reasons. Doctors’ reports were made available to show the history of medical health, but, he reports to the Police station everyday of the week”.
