LATEST: Buni Reveals Reason PDP Governors Are Defecting To APC

Governor Buni

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has explained why governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party are defecting to the All Progressives Congress.

Buni, who is the chairman caretaker committee of the APC, said the ruling party was experiencing “high powered” defection because it was now more accommodating and peaceful.

The governor spoke when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari to present a report of the party’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) after 12 months of its inauguration.

At the meeting, the ruling party extended the tenure of the committee but did not disclose for how long.

Buni said, “We are currently witnessing high powered decamping to our party, including governors from the PDP.

“The party is now more peaceful, orderly and accommodating than what we met on the ground. Although there was initial fear, the mobilisation and sensitization was able to allay the fears of members,’’ he said.

Buni added that the party now has over 40 million active members following its recent registration and revalidation exercise.

“We have observed that youth and women constitute huge population of the voting group. We had a youth and women committee, and also people with disability,’’ he said.

Buni also revealed during the meeting that the APC leadership had decided to name its secretariat as “Muhammadu Buhari House” following its conclusion of payment for the building.

Responding, President Buhari said the APC had been prepared for future elections due to the reorganisation and reconciliation of aggrieved members it witnessed under the Buni-led caretaker committee.

“…the party has bounced back to life,’’ Buhari said, adding that “I have listened with great interest the remarkable job you have done so far.”

Buhari noted that the party was engulfed with crisis under the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC), which he said led to litigations and “presented a picture of selfishness and division.’’
