Remember Christy Essien-Igbokwe the music legend who passed away a decade ago? Of course you do; no one with the minutest interest in music, east of the Niger and beyond doesn’t. Well, it turns out that the legacy of Christy Igbokwe has found a new lifeline and this is not just literary.

Christy Igbokwe’s granddaughter, Christiana Igbokwe known as Zam Zam, 8, seems to have taken up the mantle that the late legend, Christy Essien Igbokwe (the Lady of Songs) left behind. The Nigerian-American girl named after her grandmother did a mashup cover of Asa‘s “Jailer” and Coldplay & The Chainsmokers‘ “Something Just Like This” and it has set the internet bubbling.

This is not the first time Christiana Igbokwe is covering a song. In late June 2021, to remember the life and times of her grandmum, she did a cover of “You’re Welcome” from Disney’s “Moana”, to celebrate her remembrance.

We also know of a handful of covers, all of which can be found on Youtube and Audiomack. It is only a matter of time before she begins to hit the music studios in her own right. And there is no hurry. Time is not the issue here – passion and talent are and they are evident in her covers.

June 30th, 2021 made it the tenth year anniversary of the passing of the music legend. If the departed could see and we hope they do, Christy Igbokwe would be overjoyed watching her grandkid making bold steps in a field she used to own and dominate.

According to Bellanaija, “ZamZam delivers effortlessly and gives a new take on the songs, seamlessly moving from one song to another with finesse and prowess.”

We believe them but you don’t have to take Bellanaija’s words for it nor agree with us. Watch the video, yourself, below, and be the judge:
