William Uchemba started off with kid actor roles in a number of Nollywood movies in the 2000s and has since transitioned into a variety of other things over the years including writer, film producer, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.

Here are five fast facts about this Nollywood actor you probably didn’t know about.

He was born in Abia State

William Uchemba was born on the 30th of October. However, his actual year of birth is not known and there have been a number of speculations. ThrillNG reckons that the actor would be in his late thirties. And we believe.

William Uchemba was born in Abia State where he had both his primary and secondary school education. Afterward, he proceeded to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

He began acting in 2001

Williams Uchemba starred in a handful of Nollywood oldies which are often situational comedies where he shared the spotlight with some of the better-known Nigerian movie veterans. His breakthrough in the Nigerian film industry came in 2001 after he starred in “The Journey of the Dead” alongside Olu Jacobs, Ramsey Nouah, and Pete Edochie. His role in the movie gave him an upstart to feature in several other movies.

A year later, he was cast in a very popular Nollywood movie titled Oh My Son in which actresses like Rita Edochie, Patience Ozokwor, and Clarion Chukwurah were featured. In 2003, William Uchemba starred in another Nollywood blockbuster titled Beyond Belief and soon, he became a viewers’ favourite child actor.

For his role in Oh My Son (2001), William won the Best Kid Actor award at the African Movie Academy Awards. After his appearance in another popular movie titled The World of Riches in 2006, the actor took a break from Nollywood in order to complete his education.

When the actor came back to the screens, he broke through the ranks once again and found a spot amongst the elites of modern-day Nollywood. His recent appearances include “Sugar Rush” (2019), “Merry Men 2: Another Mission” (2019).

In both movies, the actor played a comic role which was expertly delivered. Both movies have been huge successes as they grossed over 200 million naira each in Nigerian Cinemas. William Uchemba owns a movie production company named Prothesis Entertainment which has produced a movie titled Hands Full of Blood.

In 2021, William Uchemba produced and released a talked-about movie titled Mamba’s Diamond which premiered on the 14th of May, 2021.

The movie has gotten a lot of positive reviews. Mamba’s Diamond is an action-comedy thriller that portrays the lives of two novice thieves who stole the world’s most valuable diamond while trying to jack a car. And because of this accidental theft, a crime lord sends professional killers after these two amateur thieves.

He makes viral skits

Prior to his full return to Nollywood, the actor started off by making hilarious short video skits on Instagram. In the skits, he would be on a phone call that was full of witty punchlines and comic remarks. Consequently, his followership across his social media handles expanded.

He featured many celebrities in his skits including Ayo Makun (AY), Don Jazzy, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) and many others. In November 2018, Williams Uchemba won the Best of Social Media award at the Social Media Awards in Nigeria for his comedy skits.

He has over 3 million followers on his Instagram page and the figure is ever increasing.

He is happily married

Well, we won’t go to a shrine and swear on the happy side, but he is married and that is enough.

On the 21st of November, 2020, William Uchemba thrilled so many hearts after he tied the knot with longtime girlfriend, Brunella Oscar, a doctor at Hull York Medical School in England. She hails from Anambra State in Nigeria.

 

Their wedding was the talk of the town at the time and had several big shots in attendance. On Thursday, 20th July, 2021, William Uchemba eulogized his wife with an Instagram post and revealed that she gave up her medical profession in order to support his own dreams.

He is into philanthropy fulltime

For years now, the actor has determined to give back to his society because he is of the opinion that it is the same society that has brought him thus far.

In 2017, he founded the William Uchemba Foundation with its first objective being to take 1,000 children out of the streets and return them to school.

Since then, the actor has been involved in several charitable acts including Give Challenge Tours and he urges his fellow celebrities to do the same. In June 2020, the actor revealed on his Instagram page that he has adopted a certain 18-year-old carpenter he met and plans to sponsor his education until he graduates from the University.
