Ex-Rep Proposes Type Of Referendum Nigerians Should Have Except South East (See Why)

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Uche Onyeagucha has disclosed that the reason those superintending over the affairs of Nigeria dread the word “referendum” is because they believe that Nigeria will not survive a plebiscite.

Anaedoonline.ng reports that the political activist disclosed this in Lagos on Wednesday while presenting a paper as one of the discussants at the RipplesNigeria Dialogue entitled: ‘Rebuilding Trust in a Divided Nigeria: Advancing the Conversation’.

While calling on other parts of the country to vote on the future of Nigeria, he stated that the federal government need not bother about conducting a referendum in the Southeast “because they have already voted Biafra”.

Onyeagucha enjoined Nigerians not to be afraid of the word referendum as the days when we posit that the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable are over.

“The unity of Nigeria must be discussed and negotiated in the interest of Nigerians. Nigeria should only exist for Nigerians. Nigeria exists only to serve the interest of Nigerians, not the geographical expression,” he said and proposed the following as the kind of referendum that Nigerians must have:

1. All Southern Minorities should be given the opportunity to vote between having a country of your own and remaining in Nigeria as is, how will you vote?

2.All persons from Southwest, given the opportunity to vote between having Oduduwa Republic and Nigeria as is, how will you vote?
