The head of the Catholic Church worldwide, Pope Francis, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the senseless killings of innocent Nigerian citizens.

During his Wednesday’s General Audience at the Vatican City, the Pope called on the Nigerian leader to guarantee the safety of all citizens across the country.

The Pope condemned the insecurity in northern Nigeria and expressed solidarity with Nigerians over the killing of over 30 people in Southern Kaduna Kaduna State last weekend.

He added that not only in Southern Kaduna were people being massacred, stressing that everywhere in the country is not safe.

Pope Francis, however, urged the Federal Government to provide adequate security for Nigerians in every part of the country.

“I learnt with pain the news of the armed attacks that took place last Sunday against the villages of Madamai Abun in Northern Nigeria.

“I pray for those who have died, for the injured and for the entire Nigerian population. I hope that the country always guarantees the safety of all its citizens,” he said.
