Abubakar said the travellers were set ablaze around 10am in Gidan Bawa village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.

The police spokesman stated that the victims were on their way to Gadan Gayan in Kaduna state when they were ambushed and attacked by the bandits.

Taking to his social media page to react, Sani said the incident is a pointer to the failure of government and if it had happened under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, there would have been a massive outcry.

He wrote: “Forty-two people were gruesomely killed and roasted in Sokoto. This is an atrocity that could have triggered an outrage and utter condemnation of the failure of the government if it had happened under the previous administration.

He also added that it is wrong for the government to be investing heavily in infrastructures such as roads and rails without working on the safety and security of the people who will use them.

According to him, “When a Government builds Roads, Bridges and Rail lines without securing the lives of the people who will use it, it’s simply beautifying a cemetery.”
