The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa has been confirmed to be COVID-19 positive after attending an event in his country on Sunday.
A statement by the South African presidency said Ramaphosa started feeling unwell after attending a memorial service for a former Deputy President of the country, FW de Klerk, in Cape Town.
The President though showing mild symptoms, is however in good spirits and is been monitored by his doctors, the statement added.

He has since gone into isolation but people who have had contact with him in recent days have been told to watch out for symptoms.
“Vaccination remains the best protection against severe illness and hospitalization,” the statement reads.
“People who have had contact with the president today are advised to watch for symptoms or to have themselves tested.”
“The president and the delegation returned to South Africa from the Republic of Senegal on Wednesday, 8 December 2021, after obtaining negative test results,” the statement added.
“The president also tested negative on his return to Johannesburg on 8 December.”

Both leaders had delibrations which the presidency described as beneficial to both countries.
The two leaders are however fully vaccinated, this news medium understands.
Meanwhile, the government of the United Kingdom says there’s no going back on its decision to place Nigeria on a red list and ban flights from the country over Omicron threats.
The UK government on Sunday stated that its position remains unchanged despite the threats by the Nigerian government to also ban flights from the country as a retaliatory measure.
Anaedoonline.ng recalls the government of Nigeria had threatened to take retaliatory action by Tuesday against countries that had placed a ban on flights from Nigeria over the Omicron variant.
