The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the hiring of former international Emmanuel Amuneke as the Super Eagles’ new head coach on Monday.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, Amuneke will succeed fan favorite Augustine Eguavoen, who will serve as Interim Technical Adviser.
NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi announced this in a statement.

According to Sanusi, the development is part of efforts to reorganize the national team’s technical committee.
“The NFF Board has approved a recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee to retain Augustine Eguavoen as Technical Director/Technical Adviser (interim), while Emmanuel Amuneke takes over as Chief Coach of the Super Eagles,” it says.
“Salisu Yusuf will be the CHAN team’s second assistant coach/chief coach, Joseph Yobo will be the third assistant, and Aloysius Agu will be the goalkeepers’ trainer.”
“We recognise and appreciate Mr Jose Peseiro’s interest in Nigeria Football during our very amicable meetings, and we have no doubt about his ability.” We feel that there may be a possibility to cooperate with him in the future.

“However, in light of the Super Eagles’ positive performance at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations, which has given Nigerians hope and boosted our confidence in the current coaching crew to qualify us for the World Cup in Qatar, we have decided to accept the Technical and Development Committee’s recommendation to retain the Eguavoen-led coaching crew and strengthen it with the addition of Emmanuel Amuneke.”
