Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, has said that the country’s southern area is not hostile to the north, as the Northern Elders Forum believes (NEF).
According to Anaedoonline.ng, Afenifere submitted the proposal in reaction to the Northern Elders’ criticism of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
The NEF had previously denounced Akeredolu’s assertion that any political party fielding a candidate from the North in 2023 will lose the election.

Northerners have the right to run for president in 2023, according to the NEF’s spokesman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, and can also canvass support for a northern candidate against the South.
Afenifere stated in a statement released on Friday by its spokesperson, Jare Ajayi, said it agreed with Governor Akeredolu’s remark and that the South should produce the next President.
According to the Yoruba organization, Akeredolu’s announcement represented the desire of the majority of ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, notably those in the South West, Middle Belt, South East, and South-South, to reclaim power in 2023.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us,” he remarked. We are on a road that will promote unity, justice, and harmony in our relationships.

Governor Akeredolu stated it succinctly: “What we stand for, together with the southern governors, is fair and equitable power rotation. The only fair thing is that after eight years in the North, the Presidency should come to the South.
