During Nigerian elections, adversaries of Ndigbo, according to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, normally strive against the election of a President of South-East extraction.

The group asserted that allocating the presidential ticket for 2023 to the area will continue to be a critical component of national unity.

According to a statement issued on Monday by President General Prof. George Obiozor, the current status of the country underscores the necessity for a leader of Igbo descent.

Obiozor asked Nigeria’s political class to put aside their worries of the Igbos and work for the country’s benefit.

He emphasized that now was the best moment for politicians to embrace patriotism and political knowledge while letting go of personal ambition.

Obiozor stated that an Igbo person will ensure peace, unity, and good administration in the South-East, stating that the region has many talented, patriotic, and trustworthy individuals.

The people have been advocating for their rights to leadership since 1960, according to the Ohanaeze Chief, resulting in allegations of marginalization in important sectors of politics and administration.

“Whenever Ndigbo are within the penalty box, our opponents and political foes constantly strive to shift the goalpost when the potential for leadership presents itself.”
