Ronaldo Vs Maguire: Rangnick Reveals Who Is Manchester United Captain

Despite concerns over defender Harry Maguire’s on-field performance, Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has stated that the England international would remain the club captain.

Despite the player’s poor performance, Rangnick believes there is no need to take away his captain’s handband.

Following his failures in recent games, some United supporters have called for Maguire’s removal as captain, but his manager insists there is no need for a change just yet.

“I believe he did really well when he returned from his injury. Rangnick observed, “He had a really excellent performance, a very good game against West Ham.”

“In the past two games, yeah he had some weaker moments, against Southampton and when we conceded the goal at Burnley, but he’s our captain and I don’t see any reason to change that.”

The United boss in defending the player added that Maguire plays a different style with the English National Team and another style at the club level so may be struggling with adapting to the different styles on the pitch.

“He’s a player who has to develop, get better, like all the other players.

“The way that we are playing now is new also to him because in the English national team he was used to playing in a back three and here at Manchester United, in most cases a back four, but still not being as proactive, not with that kind of rest defence always being on the front foot when we are trying to defend.

“This is something also new to him and it will also take some time for him to get used to that, to get adjusted to that,” Ragnick said.

Anaedoonline.ng reports Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 and was named United Captain in January 2020 by former manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He has made 132 appearances for the Red Devils since his record £80m transfer.
