If former Vice President Atiku Abubakar wins the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential ticket in 2023, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has vowed to abandon the opposition party.

According to report, the apex Igbo socio-cultural institution believes Atiku should have resigned from partisan politics and taken on the role of an elder statesman by now.

Ohanaeze urged the presidential candidate against desperation in his ambition to lead the country, advising him to abandon his campaign in favor of a younger PDP candidate.

Ohanaeze went on to imply that the South-present East’s security difficulties are the outcome of Igbo support for Atiku in 2019.

Ohanaeze was reacting to Atiku’s recent arrogant position of obtaining the PDP Presidential ticket again in 2023, characterizing such belief as nostalgic, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

“Atiku has misinterpreted the sentiment of the nation ahead of 2023, and this error may force him out of partisan politics in 2023,” Ohanaeze’s Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said in a statement.

“Atiku has the constitutional right to run for President in 2023, but one would expect him not to upset the apple cart now that the chances are stacked against him due to his age and area,” he added.

“Rather than fighting dirty or appearing desperate for the presidency, he should gracefully renounce partisan politics and accept his proper position in history as an older statesman without being humiliated.”

“Ndigbo had anticipated Atiku Abubakar to back a younger candidate in 2023, especially after Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike openly criticized Atiku’s request for him to be his running mate.
It sends a clear message and indication to him that the year 2023 is set aside for a Southern president.”

The Igbo organization also cautioned Atiku and other politicians that any attempt to keep the northerners in power beyond President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years in office will be perceived as heartless, greedy, and selfish.

Ohanaeze stressed that the Ndigbo showed enough loyalty to the PDP and Atiku Abubakar in 2019, and the present predicaments and penalties facing the Southeast today was as a result of the support Ndigbo gave to Atiku and the PDP.

Ohanaeze vowed that in 2023, Igbos will dump PDP if Atiku wins the opposition party’s ticket.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo in alliance with other ethnic groups will ensure that any political party that refuses to zone their presidential ticket to the South will suffer in the 2023 presidential election, If Atiku continues, he will surely taste the venom of Nigerians in the PDP primaries and disgrace awaits him,” Ohanaeze warned.
