Popular Human Rights’ Activist and Founder, Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has declared that he is determined to ensure that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Chief Sunday Igboho are out of confinement.

However, he emphasised that he can only achieve that if he is elected as the president of Nigeria in the upcoming 2023 general elections.

The journalist, human right activist and businessman, who was the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 presidential election and recently turned 50 last month, stated this during his declaration of interest to run for the presidency come 2023.

The American citizen’s husband, who has been jailed constantly by the present administration he allegedly work for ahead of its emergence in 2015, explained that other people who are held for desiring to leave Nigeria will be set free, as it is wrong to jail people for their desire to be free, and stated that present public office holders may be the ones to enter prison, if he becomes Nigeria’s president.

These are his words, “As soon as I am sworn in on June 12, 2023, I will release all political detainees, particularly Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho. People who are asking for self-determination should not go to prison. Those in the Diaspora must also be given the right to vote during the election. We will not encourage those who put them in prison; they should be rehabilitating prisons now because they may have to spend some time there as well.”
