Read MC Oluomo Reply To Query From NURTW National Leaders

Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo, Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has disputed charges leveled against him in a question issued by the union’s national headquarters.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Akinsanya was questioned for reportedly refusing to carry out certain of the union’s national leadership’s directions.

The national body claimed that Oluomo refused to appoint Alhaji Azeez Abiola as chairman of the Lagos State Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria ((TOOAN) as directed by the union’s national President, Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa, in a letter signed by the union’s General Secretary, Alhaji Kabiru Ado Yau.

Oluomo allegedly refused to hand over the former NURTW Secretariat in Abule Egba to the tricycle caretaker committee in order to prevent them from using the office, according to the report.

Oluomo was also accused by the national NURTW of using thugs to intimidate other local branches and union members.

In response to the question, MC Oluomo replied that the claims leveled against him were untrue and without merit, and that he is a peacemaker.

In his relations with other affiliate unions, the popular NURTW veteran maintained he has not breached any of the union’s operating regulations, as indicated in the enquiry.

He said that Abiola was not appointed as chairman, Lagos State Tricycle Operators but as one of the State Trustees and Chairman, Zone ‘C’ of TOOAN on February 9, 2022.

He said: “Alhaji Azeez Abiola was announced on February 9 in Abuja as one of the State Trustees and Chairman, Zone ‘C’ Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria (TOOAN) of NURTW and not overall chairman of TOOAN in the state.

“But unfortunately, before we got back to Lagos, Abiola has been parading himself on social media as the new state chairman of TOOAN and posting a letter of the appointment I was not aware of.

“This is in spite of the fact that the legality of TOOAN is an issue at the National Industrial Court and the Lagos State Council is presently funding the defence in an effort to protect the corporate image of the union.”

Akinsanya said the decision to rearrange the tricycle segment of the union’s operations was legal and reached by the entire state executive.

He added that the rearrangement was done with the knowledge and approval of the national president.

He said: “The initial plan was a 3 zone arrangement, but we accommodated the wishes of the President for a 5-zone arrangement and his nomination of two Zonal Chairmen.

“The action is neither illegal nor unconstitutional as it is within our constitutional rights as the elected leaders of the State Council and it was done with the concurrence of the National President. It was never to create rivalry and/or disharmony, and until now, the peace that we have in Lagos State was never experienced by previous administrations.”

On the allegation of using thugs to forcefully take over branches of his perceived enemies, Akinsanya said nothing of such ever happened under his leadership.

He said he would not do anything to tarnish the image of the union nor allow the union members to be branded as thugs and disturbers of the public peace in Lagos.

Akinsanya also denied claims of intimidation or assault on Abiola or any of his supporters.

“One of the major achievements of this present executive under my leadership in Lagos State is the promotion of peace and prevention of forceful takeover of branches. If any of the Zonal Chairmen to whom the branches belong, however, bring the issue to our attention, the same shall be investigated openly and the cause/reason determined,” he said.
