Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, has urged the Federal Government to follow the Benin Republic’s lead and release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba Nation agitator, was freed on Monday, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, reacted to the incident by saying it was now time for the Nigerian government to heed its request for Kanu’s release.

“The President Muhammadu Buhari-led government should play the role of a father by freeing Nnamdi Kanu from detention,” Okwu said, adding that if there is to be peace in the South-East, “the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government should play the role of a father by freeing Nnamdi Kanu from detention.”

“We have repeatedly stated that Kanu’s incarceration was exacerbating the nation’s insecurity problem, and that the only way out was a political solution.

“Everyone should be concerned about the ongoing upheaval in the South-East, and the answer lies primarily in Kanu’s release.”

“At this point, the government must free him and get down at the negotiating table with the Igbo youths who feel alienated and out of place in the scheme of things.”
