Umahi/Igwe’s Sack: What We’ll Do Once We Get The Court Judgement – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has reacted to the court decision to remove Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi.

Festus Okoye, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, said the electoral umpire has yet to receive copies of the court’s verdict.

After getting verified papers from the court judgment, Okoye stated that INEC will take action against Umahi.

Umahi/Igwe’s Sack: See How Ebonyians Reacted To Court Ruling

Umahi and his deputy were fired by an Abuja Federal High Court yesterday.

Umahi cannot transfer the votes that put him in office under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, according to Justice Inyang Ekwo.

The judge had ordered INEC to stop recognizing Umahi and his deputy, adding that PDP should send names to the electoral umpire as their replacement.

The court said Umahi had forfeited his governorship when he defected from the PDP to join the ruling APC last year.

“The Commission has not been served with a copy of the said judgment.
