Umahi’s Sack: NBA Blasts Ebonyi Governor Over Attack On Justice Ekwo

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has denounced the governor of Ebonyi State for making disparaging remarks against Justice Inyang Ekwo following his unfavorable court ruling.

This comes after Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi termed Justice Inyang Ekwo’s removal from office as “a hatchet” man’s job on Tuesday.

In response to the remarks, the NBA called Umahi’s remark a national humiliation.

Umahi’s reaction to Ekwo’s court ruling was “completely inappropriate,” according to a statement issued by NBA president Olumide Akpata on Wednesday.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Ekwo rendered judgment in a lawsuit filed by the People’s Democratic Party against Umahi, his deputy, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the All Progressive Congress on Tuesday (PDP).

The PDP filed a lawsuit in December 2020, alleging Umahi’s defection from the PDP to the APC, which had won the 2015 and 2019 elections on its platform.

The Umahi’s defection, according to the party, was unlawful and unconstitutional.

The judge agreed with the lawsuit and ordered Umahi to resign, prompting the governor to respond quickly.

BREAKING: Umahi Rejects Court Ruling, Insists He’s Ebonyi State Governor

Umahi had promised to inform the National Judicial Council about him.

Part of his claims are that Ekwo had about 10 cases against Ebonyi in his file, but he did not explain to the general public that cases are assigned to judges solely by the Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho.

Akpata said Umahi could have appealed the judgment and not speak harshly about a sitting judge.

He strongly advised Umahi to publicly apologize to Nigerians urgently so as to save his image.
