After Umahi’s Removal, PDP Move On Matawalle, File Suit Against Zamfara Governor

Following his defection to the All Progressives Congress, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State is expected to lose his governorship (APC).

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a complaint in the Federal High Court in Abuja, demanding the governor’s removal from office as a result of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP urged the court to recognise the impeached Deputy Governor, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, as the legitimately elected governor of Zamfara State in a petition filed by its counsel, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN).

The PDP is also requesting that the court dismiss 37 members of the National Assembly and state legislatures who have defected to the APC.

Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Matawalle’s legal counsel, requested an extension of time to file their replies to the issue.

Following a motion for joinder and the statements of counsel in the case, Justice Inyang Ekwo set an April 7 hearing date for the claim.

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja fired Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State and his Deputy, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe, for abandoning the PDP in favor of the APC.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, who delivered the ruling on Tuesday, ordered Umahi and his deputy to quit their positions immediately and asked INEC to replace them with a PDP candidate.
