The governing All Progressives Congress (APC) has finalized arrangements to overturn a court decision that had prevented the party’s national convention from taking place on March 26.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and other party stakeholders have agreed to vacate the suit this week, according to Anaedoonline.ng.
On March 18, 2021, Justice Bello Kawu of the Federal High Court in Abuja decided that the APC could not have a national convention pending the outcome of a lawsuit filed against it.

The order was issued on November 18, 2021, in response to an ex parte application filed by an aggrieved member of the party, Hon. Salisu Umoru, seeking to prevent the APC and its Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, from holding any convention until the suit was resolved.
After reading Umoru’s reliefs, Khalilat Bello’s affidavit, and hearing from his counsel, H. S. Danjuma Esq, and lawyers for the APC and Buni, A. M. Adoyi, and INEC, Anthony Onyeri Esq, Justice Bello Kawu ruled that the APC can only hold a national convention after the suit has been heard and decided.
In addition, the presiding court ordered an expedited hearing in the case.
According to the report, Umoru (plaintiff) was prepared to drop the lawsuit in order for the APC’s national convention to go forward as planned, despite tremendous pressure from APC stakeholders.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has denied ordering the expulsion of Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe State and the chairman of the All Progressives Congress’s Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee.
The president denied allegations that he had authorized the nomination of Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello.
According to reports, Buhari has approved Buni to oversee the APC convention on March 26th, with the caveat that no more postponements will be accepted.
According to report, Buhari took the decision in London after a meeting with his most trusted allies including the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
Buhari, according to sources, also cleared insinuations and reports that he had backed former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Adamu Abdullahi for the party’s chairman.
He reportedly stated that he had no preferred candidate for the chairmanship position, throwing the race open.
