The UK government has declared that it is focussing on the “Ukraine Family Scheme” in response to the humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the invasion of Ukraine, which is why visitor permits in Nigeria have been suspended until further notice.
The British High Commission in Nigeria confirmed this on Tuesday, stating that the “Ukraine Family Scheme,” which permits for applications based on new studies, job, and family, is now being prioritized.
“Following the establishment of the Ukraine Family Scheme and in response to the humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the invasion of Ukraine, UK Visas and Immigration is presently prioritizing applications filed under the scheme.”

“As a result, UKVI has temporarily halted priority and super priority services for new study, employment, and family visa applications.” Customers who submit normal applications through the study, employment, or family routes may suffer some delays in processing.
“At this time, we are unable to provide PV for tourist applications in Nigeria.”It noted on Tuesday that “standard visitor visa applications are presently taking an average of six weeks to process.”
According to the UK government’s website, persons who are qualified to apply for the Ukraine Family Scheme must meet the following requirements:
“Apply to join or accompany a member of your family who lives in the United Kingdom; and
UK Govt Resumes Processing Of Visitors Visa For Nigerians
“Be a Ukrainian or a member of a Ukrainian national’s immediate family who is applying for the scheme; and
“Have been residing in Ukraine on or immediately before 1 January 2022 (including those who have now left Ukraine)”
The UK, however, stated it may consider any application for visa that is due to medical challenges.
The statement further reads:
“Applicants will be contacted by the Visa Application Centre (VAC) when their passport is ready for collection. They should not attend the VAC until they have been invited to do so.
“Where there are extremely compassionate or compelling circumstances (for example, a medical emergency), UKVI may consider expediting specific cases. However, the bar for this is high and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

“If a request is exceptionally urgent, applicants can contact UK Visas and Immigration for help. Please note that this is a chargeable service for overseas customers.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
