UPDATE: Hunters Kill Lion In Sambisa Forest, Reveal Where It Came From

The lion was said to have come from Cameroun’s Waza Game Reserve before being captured and killed by hunters on Tuesday, March 15.

Mr Peter Ayuba, Director of Forestry and Wildlife, Ministry of Environment, Borno, confirmed the occurrence, saying that similar incidents of elephants from game reserves invading the region have occurred before.

“In the Kala-Balge Local Government Area, we have similar occurrences of elephants from the game reserve approaching settlements,” he says.

“There was also an incidence in Kaga LGA when some hyenas killed a man in the bush.”

“Many farmlands have been turned into dense woodland due to a lack of human activity in certain rural villages for numerous years.”

He claimed that the lack of humans in the area for numerous years caused the animals in reserves to stray into the communities.

Ayuba went on to say that the villages had been devoid of humanity up until today, when people were gradually returning to base with the restoration of peace.

As a result, he warned residents to remain vigilant, claiming that the murdered lion’s pride may be prowling nearby.

“The lion attacked the hunters, injuring two of them before being slain.

“The injured hunters are being treated, and the lion’s carcass has been delivered to the Ministry of the Environment.”
