President Muhammadu Buhari has strongly denounced the damage of police buildings and assets in Imo State, as well as the residence of Professor George Obiozor, President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Buhari hailed Obiozor as a leading voice of moderation in the affairs of the country who does not deserve such treatment, speaking through his media adviser Garba Shehu on Sunday.

Beyond condemning violence in the region, Buhari asked everyone to keep the peace, saying that the Southeast’s law and order situation is being evaluated.

While this is being done, he said, the people of Imo State, in particular, and the subregion as a whole, should keep the peace as the police and other authorities seek to restore normalcy as soon as possible.

He also expressed his condolences to the police authorities for the loss of men and materials, as well as Professor Obiozor, whom he urged to remain committed to the Federation’s peace and unity despite the odds.

Recall that Imo state was engulfed in yet another wave of violence over the weekend when unknown gunmen attacked Chief Obiozor’s property in the state.

While it has been widely condemned by cross sections of Nigerians, it is not clear whether members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were responsible for the act.
