Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti, has shown interest in replacing President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The former governor announced on Thursday that he will run for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer in next year’s election in a statement.

“May I also announce unequivocally that I would seek the PDP’s presidential ticket in the next election,” he stated.

Fayose: My Next Ambition Is To Be Prophet Or Nigerian President

Fayose also denied backing Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra and presidential candidate.

Reports that he favored Obi and the zoning of the presidency to the Southeast are untrue, he claims.

“I have tremendous regard for Peter Obi as a leader, and I appreciate his ambitions,” Fayose said, “but I have never endorsed his presidential aspirations or that the presidency be allocated to the Southeast.”

“Rather, I believe the presidency should be assigned to Nigeria’s southern region.”

Recall that Funso Fayose, the son of the former Governor of Ekiti State, warned his father against standing for President in 2023 without making provisions for Nigerians.

In a social media post, Funso chastised the government for failing to address insecurity, citing a recent terrorist attack on an Abuja-Kaduna railway.

According to Funso, President Muhammadu Buhari’s harm to the country is unfathomable, and future generations would suffer the brunt of it.

He questioned the likes of Bola Tinubu, Nyesom Wike, Aminu Tambuwal on what they have to offer Nigerians following the declaration of their ambition.

Funso wrote, “It’s a very important question what does Tinubu, Saraki, Wike and Tambuwal have to offer this country? The nation is almost, if not a failed state. Yet the political desperation is more than the need to fix the nation. You guys have been in power for as long as I can remember, so what’s new?”
