Imo Refinery Explosion: Ihedioha Calls for Investigation Over Incidence

Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha (CON), the former Governor of Imo State, has responded to the Egbema Illegal Refinery Fire, which lost hundreds of lives on Friday.

Ihedioha was taken aback by the news and voiced his grief. An illegal refinery in Abaeze, Ohaji Egbema LGA, Imo State, erupted in flames, killing numerous persons and damaging property worth millions of dollars, according to Politics Nigeria.

Hon. Ihedioha termed the tragedy as “unfortunate and avoidable,” in a statement signed by his media assistant, Chibuike Onyeukwu, on Monday. He called for a comprehensive inquiry and prosecution of all those responsible for the slaughter to prevent future occurrences.

“This is one too many losses,” he remarked. My heart breaks for the individuals, families, and towns impacted by this tragic and preventable calamity.

“It is a period of grief and sober reflection for our State, which has been bedeviled by insecurity and other challenges”.

While calling for a deliberate action to nip the increasing activities of illegal refinery and bunkering in the state, His Excellency enjoins citizens to take adequate precautions and avoid activities that will expose them to danger or risk of losing their lives and property.
