2023: I Will Not Resign For Any Reason, Nwajiuba Tells APC

Nwajiuba

Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, the Minister of State for Education, has stated that he would not quit as ordered by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the presidential candidate was reacting to the ruling party’s new guidelines, which were announced on Monday in Abuja.

Remember that the APC had requested that all political appointees who planned to run in the party’s primary elections quit.

The party’s new guidelines urge political appointees who want to run for office to quit at least 30 days before the primary.

With the new rules in effect, all political appointees with presidential ambitions have three days to quit or forget about their goals for 2023.

Appointees with gubernatorial, National, and State Assembly ambitions are likely to leave by today at the latest, as the party’s primary is set for May 18 and 23.

Nwajiuba told reporters on Wednesday that the call for him and other political appointees who want to run for office to quit is unlawful.

The minister emphasized that aspirants are allowed to quit 30 days before an election under the 1999 Constitution (as modified), and no additional legislation has been enacted on the subject.

Igbo Presidency: Igbo’s Should Be Careful – Nwajiuba

Prior to the APC presidential primaries scheduled for May 30 to June 1, 2022, Nwajiuba stated that he will follow the constitution and not resign from his post.

He said: “The resignation of a minister or anybody who is in office is guided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are required to contest elections if we want.

“We are required to resign 30 days before any election we choose to contest. That is the position of the law. Every other person can have an opinion.

“My position is that the law of the country rests on the grundnorm called Constitution. If you do not like the Constitution, your work is to amend it.

“There is no subrogation of power that is required for you to include into a law what is not in that law.”
