Hushpuppi: Malami Stalls Abba Kyari’s Extradition Trial

The extradition of suspended Deputy Commissioner Police Abba Kyari to the United States has been halted by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The hearing on Kyari’s extradition application was postponed after Malami asked more time to file some documents.

At the hearing on Wednesday, the AGF’s counsel, Pius Akutah, asked time to reply to procedures issued by Kyari’s lawyer, Mahmud Magaji.

Following Kyari’s lawyer’s late answer, Akutah sought for an extension of time, according to him.

The suspended DCP’s counsel did not oppose to Akutah’s request for an extension of time.

In his order, Justice Ekwo postponed the hearing to June 2.

An extradition case had been filed against the former head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team following his link with confessed internet fraudster, Abbas Ramon, popularly known as Hushpuppi.

There were reports that Kyari was involved in a fraudulent activity carried out by Hushpuppi, an allegation which was denied by an embattled police officer.
