2023: Fate Of Ministers, Appointees Who Fail To Resign Revealed

Ministers and political appointees who are pursuing elected office but refuse to leave would be fired, according to the Presidency.

According to Anaedonline.ng, Presidential Spokesman Garba Shehu stated this in a Channels Television interview on Thursday.

President Muhammadu Buhari has already urged members of his cabinet and other government personnel with political ambitions to quit by May 16.

Any political appointee with political aspirations who remains in service, according to Shehu, “would have someone decide for him or her.”

The presidential spokesman emphasized that the presidential mandate is plain and straightforward, and that appointees must follow it.

He added that the circular of the government to the effect was issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and duly approved by the President.

“We are dealing with a government policy, a government directive, a circular of the government issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation duly approved by the President [which] clearly states who is to go.

“So, I think that in a few occupied offices like that, you make the decision by yourself otherwise, someone would decide for you. So, that’s the point,” he said.

Shehu went on to say that the uproar over the cost of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination and expression of interest forms was needless.

According to the presidential assistant, hopefuls can raise funds through a variety of sources, including donations from friends, acquaintances, and well-wishers.

Shehu, on the other hand, stated that it is not the presidency’s role to order the different anti-corruption authorities in the country to probe the candidates’ sources of money.

He also proposed that the APC should not reimburse money spent on the forms if an applicant changes their mind about running.
