UPDATE: National Assembly Transmits Amended Electoral Act To Buhari

The modified Electoral Act 2022 has apparently been forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari for his signature.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the legislation was delivered to the President for assent on Friday after both houses of the National Assembly revised it.

Section 84(8) of the Act was specifically altered to allow automatic or statutory delegates to participate in political party primaries, congresses, and conventions.

Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, members of the National Assembly, governors and their deputies, members of the State Houses of Assembly, chairmen of local government areas, councillors, and political party executives, among others, will now be able to vote and be voted for under the new amendment.

President Buhari would sign the amendment before the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, according to a White House source.

He indicated that the White House will announce when the President would sign the modified Act.

“Yes, it has been communicated,” a source told Newsmen. But wait until Monday, when the President may declare when he will sign it.”

“It was transmitted on Friday,” another National Assembly source added. Before saying anything, I needed to double-check.”
