On Wednesday, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a six-count amended indictment filed against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Following the departure of counsel for the Federal Government, Adamu Kaatu, the judge dismissed the new allegations.
When it was revealed that the trial could not be begun while an amended charge was pending, Kaatu chose to drop the additional charges, citing the necessity for the government to commence Kanu’s trial after years of delay.

The government counsel, apparently anxious to summon witnesses to testify against Kanu, immediately filed for the withdrawal, which was not challenged by the defendant’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
Justice Nyako, in a brief ruling, struck out the amended charge to pave way for the Federal Government to open its case against Kanu.
Anaedoonline.ng recalls that the Federal Government had amended charges against Kanu six times since the arraignment in 2015.
