Herdsmen Attack: Abia State Govt Shuts ABSU Indefinitely As Students Protest Turns Violent

After a student-led demonstration against herdsmen abductions and killings became violent on Thursday, the Abia State University, Uturu, has declared the institution’s indefinite suspension.

The school issued the instruction in a “Mid-Semester Break” message.

The school announced that the vacation will begin on Friday and that students should vacate their “halls of residence and await additional orders on the date of return,” according to the announcement.

Residents of Uturu and Okigwe towns, as well as students, stopped the Umuahia-Enugu Expressway on Thursday to protest the kidnapping and death of students, professors, and travelers by suspected herdsmen.

Security personnel intruded into the rally, frightened demonstrators away with bullets, and the event turned violent.

In a video, kids can be seen fleeing for their lives amid gunfire in the subsequent battle.

The increased number of incidences of homicides and kidnappings in the South-East has caused significant worry.
