APC May Opt For Consensus As Buhari Plan To Meet Tinubu, Osinbajo, Amaechi, Others

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to meet with presidential hopefuls from the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s primaries, according to reports.

Buhari is expected to use the meeting as a chance to assist limit the number of presidential candidates.

As he did during the APC presidential primaries in 2014, he is anticipated to ask them to accept the results of the primary.

“The President will meet with the aspirants a few days to the primary with a view to ensuring that there is unity and harmony. He will also meet with the governors separately. The date is not fixed yet, but it should be this week if INEC doesn’t extend the deadline for the primary as we are all hoping,” an APC chieftain who wished to remain anonymous told Newsmen.

“The President has a candidate. How to present the idea to the likes of Tinubu will be the challenge,” he added.

When contacted on the telephone, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said he was not aware of such a meeting.

“I am not aware of any meeting as of now,” he said.Except for former Lagos State governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, according to the source, all APC presidential candidates are willing to accept a consensus.

Other candidates have stated their willingness to resign if President Buhari chooses one of them as his preferred choice.

Any candidate who decides to resign must do so in writing, according to the Electoral Act.

According to reports, some big hopefuls have begun calling less popular contenders with offers to return the N100 million paid to acquire the party’s form or promises of lucrative posts if they relinquish their aspiration and support theirs.
