Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, paid a visit to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in Abuja on Monday.

On Saturday night, the former Vice President trounced Wike, his closest competitor, in the main opposition party’s presidential primary.

After Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, withdrew out of the race for Atiku during the polling process, Atiku received 371 votes while Wike received 237 votes.

According to reports, Atiku met with Wike on Monday as part of a reconciliation effort for the PDP in order to offer the party a greater chance of defeating the incumbent All Progressives Congress in the 2023 presidential election.

Former Ekiti State Governor and PDP presidential candidate Ayodele Fayose, among other PDP leaders, attended the reconciliation gathering.

Following his defeat in the main opposition party’s presidential primary, Wike has remained silent.

Prior to the start of voting, the Rivers State Governor stated that he would back any contender who emerged.

When Atiku gave his acceptance speech, he was, however, absent from the podium.
